There’s a story in I Samuel recounting the first time God called to Samuel when he was still a child.  Twice God called and Samuel ran to the prophet Eli because he thought he was calling him.  Eli realized it was God calling Samuel and told him the next time he heard the voice to say “Speak; for thy servant heareth.”  It was then he realized God spoke to him.

How many times in our busy lives do we either fail to hear God speaking to us, or not realize it is His voice we are hearing.  Because most of us lead busy lives, we often find it hard to hear God.  What we need to do is to take some time each day to specifically listen.  It may be first thing in the morning.  For me, I like to lay in bed for 5 minutes and just listen to see if God has something for me.  I again try the same when going to bed.

I don’t hear a voice the same way I hear a person’s voice.  But I do hear a voice inside me.  Sometimes it seems like an idea pops into my head and I have learned to realize that many times this is God speaking.

Try to take some time each day to spend some quiet time and see if God is speaking to you.
