In this week's Parsha, a ladder, leading towards the heavens and G-d, appears to Yaakov as he dreams. Yaakov's ladder is not just metaphorical. It is an actual, real ladder which appears to us. Even when we cannot see it. When we are in the supermarket, chosing between a brand with a hescher, and a brand without one, that ladder is there. When we choose what to wear each morning, that ladder is there. We might be taking part in the most mundane activity of the day, but we are nonetheless on that ladder. And just as one cannot stay still on a ladder, the same applies to our day-to-day lives. We can either slip, and fall into galus. Or we can rise up, towards kedushah. The decisions we make every second of the day can elevate our place in this world- or they can cause us to fall. Every decision counts.
