As the Scriptures say, “People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.” And that word is the Good News that was preached to you. (‭1 Peter‬ ‭1‬:‭24-25‬ NLT)‬‬‬
Quoting Isaiah 40:6-8, Peter reminds believers that everything in this life—possessions, accomplishments, people—will eventually fade away and disappear. Only God’s will, word, and work are permanent. We must stop grasping the temporary and begin focusing our time, money, and energy on the permanent: the Word of God and our eternal life in Christ. (Tyndal Study Bible)
People are compared here to grass and flowers that wither away. We are mortal, but God’s Word is eternal and unfailing. Public opinion changes and is unreliable, but God’s Word is constant. Only in God’s eternal Word will we find lasting solutions to our problems and needs.
Have you look yourself in the mirror lately and said wow I am getting old, I am sure that has happened to you all.
I don’t need to tell you this. Everything in this world gets old. Even those favourite pair of jeans of yours. Just like the grass withers we and our possessions withers. Fashion comes to mind. Everything eventually changes nothing stays the same. I am in the car business look how that has changed. Yes, some fundamentals are the same, but on the face of it, things have changed immensely.
Think of trends and habits people follow. Kids don’t play Cowboys and Crooks anymore. Everyone is taking Selfies. Will that stay forever, no it won’t?
The only thing that has never changed is God. The Bible God’s Word has never changed. Jesus died for our sin’s and promised that when we believe in him, we will have eternal life. It's that Good news when we receive it that gives as lasting peace. This lasting peace and news are available to all, no matter who you are. What is more no matter what you have done.
This lasting peace will stay permanent if we remain in God’s Word. It’s there to fend off that sin that crosses or paths daily.
“Lord Jesus I thank you for the promise of eternal life. I thank you for Your word. Let me stay in Your word. In Jesus name. Amen.”
