The one thing that can still scare the daylights out of me is lightning.  It’s not that I’m afraid it will hurt me, it’s how it arrives.  Sometimes I’ll be standing at the window mindlessly watching the rain gently fall.  Even if it is blustery, rainfall still has a peaceful and calming effect.  Then out of nowhere, BAM, lightning seems to make landfall a few feet from the house.  Needless to say, my heart starts pumping a little faster and my hair is standing a little straighter.  It’s not the fear of lightning but instead the suddenness and loudness at which it comes that scares me.

There are many different things in this world that may be troublesome and cause us to fear.  They may come suddenly or they may creep up on us.   But there is one thing upon which we can be certain.  “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”  (Psalms 4:8, KJV)  No matter what may stand in front of us to put fear in our hearts and minds, God is there to give us peace.
