LOT Polish Airlines has announced it will be launching direct flights between the Hungarian capital Budapest and Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport in May 2018. The year-round nonstop flights will be operated twice weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

With the launch of the new service, Chicago will become the only city in the United States to be direct linked with Budapest by Poland’s flagship carrier. Earlier, a Hungarian destination was connected with nonstop flights from the U.S. by an airline in 2011.

LOT Polish Airlines in a statement said that it is quite positive about the new service between Budapest and Chicago O’Hare. The airline hoped that convenient connections will be offered not only to residents of Budapest, but also those residing in other cities of Hungary, estern Romania, the Slovak Republic, eastern Austria and the Balkan countries. The Budapest-Chicago O’Hare route will be served with the help of a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, configured in three classes – Business Class, Economy Class and Premium Economy.

Talking about the various facets of this bustling city, Arnold Walter, CEO and President of Fare Buzz, said, “Chicago is a key city in the United States, and third largest in the country. It is also popularly known as the “World Capital of Jazz”. This historic city is also renowned for its happening nightlife. The city will mesmerize you endlessly with its awesome traditional red brick skyscrapers harmoniously standing alongside modern towers exquisitely designed by Renzo Piano, Frank Gehry and Frank Lloyd Wright in the city’s cultural center and business district ‘The Loop’.”

Rafał Milczarski, CEO of LOT Polish Airlines, said, “The number of customers traveling to the United States from Budapest has been continuously growing. This has also created a large, untapped market. Every year it is being seen that above 165,000 passengers are taking flights to New York and Chicago from Budapest. However, due to non availability of direct flights to both these U.S. destinations, the passengers have to travel from Budapest to the U.S. via London, Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt thus making the journey longer. This is now going to change from next year with the launch of direct flights to the two U.S. destinations from Budapest.”

Meanwhile, LOT Polish Airlines also said that it is set to introduce direct flights between Budapest and New York as well in May 2018. The nonstop flights on Budapest-New York route will be operated four times per week, on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. A Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft will be deployed to serve the two destinations.

Earlier, LOT Polish Airlines announced the launch of direct flights services between Chicago and Krakow in July 2017. The flights will be operated round the year once every week. This will be in addition to the airline’s daily service between Krakow and Chicago with a stopover in Warsaw. The new Krakow-Chicago route will be served with the help of a newly acquired Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Radosław Włoszek, Chairman of the Management Board, Krakow Airport, said, “Krakow Airport is set to make Chicago a part of its network in 2018 after an absence of about seven years. We are going to launch direct flights between Chicago and Krakow from next year. It is being seen for quite some time that the travelers are showing keen interest in the route and it continues to thrive. Over 90,000 passengers are currently flying between Krakow and Chicago via Warsaw every year. The direct flight is going to be particularly advantageous for all those traveling from southern Poland, Slovakia and the Silesia region.”
