She has a box

for all her memories

a treasure of keepsakes;

her grade school report card

a gold medal for winning the

essay writing contest

ribbons she used to wear,

dead petals of a rose

when you said, "I love you"

and love notes from the war.

At the bottom of the box,

a precious locket

when you opened it,

it had your portrait

it's all she has,

in her advanced age

and dementia

memories in a box
