i crane my neck and tiptoe, hoping to see you. a steady stream of people pool out of the bus and onto the gravel lane. but none of them are you. i sigh despondently as the bus slowly creaks away.

my senses heighten when another screeches to a halt at the bus stop. eyes roving over the exit, i search for you. and…there you are. we spot each other almost at the same time. wide grins break across both our faces, and i find myself pushing past people and running to you.

you drop your bag and you’re scooping me up into a hug. i’m tearing up now.

“i’ve missed you,” i say. your eyes are sparkling with joy and unshed tears.

“i love you,” you mumble, burying your face in my shoulder.

we’re locked in an embrace, enclosed in our own little bubble. and for that one moment, all was right in the world.
