Many people today go through life with the sole intention of making as much money as possible.  To them, money means success.  Money may make life easier at times but there are two old sayings that suggest money is not the be all and end all of life; money can’t buy happiness, and you can’t take it with you.  Both of these are certainly true.  There are many extremely rich people that are far from happy and no one yet has found a way to take their monetary riches with them when they die.

In Proverbs 16:16, King Solomon says, “How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!” (KJV)  Those who strive for wisdom and understanding will experience a much fuller and more fruitful life.  In Proverbs 9:10 he explains wisdom and understanding.  “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”  The word fear here is not our usual understanding of fear, it means to have a moral reverence.  That is how we experience a full and joy filled life.
