Morocco Surf Travel Adventure

Just a quick low cost air flight away, with a warm climate and fantastic long right hand point breaks, it's easy to see why Morocco has been a winter getaway for European surfers since the 1950's.

There are two main areas for surfing, the first is Taghazout just north of Agadir, it has more right hand point breaks per kilometre than almost any other place on earth. Essaouira is further north and has a laid back atmosphere but similarly there are lots of right hand breaks to be found in the region. Water temperatures vary between 20 degrees in October to a low 17.5 degrees in February through to March. So  3 / 2 wetsuits are fine to use here in these water temperatures. Taghazout is now served by very reliable and professional surf schools and camps with all levels of accomodation from budget to luxury are available.

The camps offer a variety of services from full guided surf coaching holidays to self cater accomodation. Many apartments and surf camps have sea views, overlooking the bays and point breaks. During the winter months, surfers of many abilities and nationalities congregate around the area so there is a buzz on land and you won't be on your own in the ocean. Many of the point breaks tend to sort out the crowds and you should leave with many memorable sessions under your belt.

If you are looking for a bit of solitude you can always hit the road, and escape and explore the coastlines to the north or south of Morocco. You never know what sort of surf breaks or other adventures are waiting to be discovered ...
