When I was about 8 or 9 years old I found a new friend.  We were close for about a year but then we slowly drifted apart.  As I passed through my teenage years I would sometimes talk with him but it just wasn’t the same.  Then when I was almost thirty he came back into my life like a flood and I haven’t gone a day without talking with him.  Every day I make a point of finding some time to talk with him; sometimes I complain to him, sometimes I ask for advice and sometimes I ask for his help.  Needless to say, now, my feelings for him are very strong.

The feelings I have toward this friend are well explained in a hymn by Joseph M. Scriven, ‘What a Friend We Have in Jesus’.  Jesus is the friend I met in my youth and the one from whom I wandered.  He is also the one who searched me out and brought me back when I wandered.

Are you in a place in your life where you need a friend?  One who will never leave you.  One who will accept you as you are.  One who wants nothing but the best for you.  Maybe you should ask Jesus if you could be His friend, because I know He wants to be yours.
