Do you not know? Have you not heard? People are perishing today.  We hear it on the news, we witness it before our very eyes.  Not a day goes by in which some horrific tragedy has not happened.

Ignorance is not bliss.  I’ve always told myself, “Lord, you will not have me ignorant.”

The Bible says, “Know this: In the last days perilous times will come. Men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, slanderers, unrestrained, fierce, despisers of those who are good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God, having a form of godliness, but denying its power. Turn away from such people.”

These are indeed perilous times. Just days ago five people were fatally shot at a mall outside of Seattle, WA.  The shooting in Houston. TX left nine injured and one suspect dead. And don’t overlook the police shootings in Washington, DC, Charlotte, NC, Tulsa OK, and just today in El Cajon, CA.  Black Lives Matter, All Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, Being “Saved” Matters.

I do want to say here that all policemen are not bad. There are many kind and caring police officers who risk their lives daily for our safety. Just because there are a few bad apples, doesn't mean the whole bunch is spoiled. I have witnessed the caring and kindness shown to my children by the police in the area I live.

In Martin Luther King, Jr’s. “I Have a Dream” speech he said several things that resonate with me during this troubled time:

“Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning.”

“But there is something that I must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.”

To quote Maya Angelou, “when you know better, you do better.”  knowbetter

Proverbs 29:18 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC) states, “Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]—blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he.”

Powerful words from God Himself.

People are perishing for a lack of redemptive revelation of God.  When the word revelation is used in theology, it refers to God’s “uncovering” himself so that we can “see” (know) him. There are several ways in which God reveals himself:

First, the revelation of God in the things he has created. He created the universe, the sun, the moon, the stars and the “laws” of nature, and he created human beings, creatures made in the image of God.

Secondly, there is redemptive revelation. Revelation is given to man through man who in turn make it known to others.  This revelation has been preserved by God and committed to writing and passed down to us through the Holy Scriptures (Bible).

With all the societal issues we face today, we truly need a redemptive revelation of God.  Yet, amidst of all of this chaos, God is crying out and calling us to repentance. Our destinies are connected to the choices we make.

God gives us all the instructions we need in His Word to live a life righteous and holy. As believers, we are to impart godly wisdom and knowledge without ever being ashamed to tell the Good News of the gospel. sharegospel

The gospel of Jesus Christ is good news. It is because of the gospel message, through the power of God, those who believe in Christ may be saved (Romans 10:9). It is a message that saves and transforms lives. That’s good news!

Church is time to wake up and spread the good news, the gospel of the kingdom of God.  We are the salt and light of the earth.

"Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.”  Isaiah 60:1

Church Arise!
