One of my favourite portions of scripture is found in Job 19.  Disaster has befallen him and he is having a discussion with friends concerning his plight and the reasons for it.

Starting at verse 13 he makes some observations about the state of his life.  He says that all those who know him avoid him and his friends and relatives have all left.  He feels his servants ignore him, his wife can’t stand him and his family views him as repulsive. Children of the street both hate and jeer him.  His dearest loved ones even reject him.

His conclusion is that he is nothing but a bag of bones, useless and hated.  It sounds pretty depressing, as if he has lost all hope.

But in verse 25 and he comes to a surprising conclusion.  “For I know that my redeemer liveth...And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.”

When all is said and done, he realizes the one who can redeem him from this terrible condition is alive and no matter what happens to his body, one day he will see God.

This is something we need to remember.  No matter what happens to us here, we have a Redeemer to free us from our condition and our sins.  His name is Jesus.
