Hello Beauties,

Depression....the word seems forbidden; let's not talk about it, you're just having a bad day, it will pass.  People usually do not want to talk about or admit that they are more than just down or having a bad day.  Depression is more than that and I know first hand.  It makes everyday stresses feel like the end of the world.

A little after my son was born, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression, which I don't think I ever recovered from.  I was diagnosed with depression about a year later. There has been days where I become so overwhelmed with feelings of worthlessness, fear of failing, feeling unloved, that I stayed in bed for a few days.  Can you imagine?  All of your sadness, stress, hurt, and uncertainties crashing down on you all at once?

I believe that stress is a huge trigger for me and I've found somethings that help me de-stress and unwind.

  1. ReadI really enjoyed reading before having a family.  Relaxing and getting lost in a great book is an excellent way of letting your mind focus on something other than what is going on in your life.  You can deal with it when you finish the last chapter.
  2. Knit or Crochet:  Creating something with my hands always takes me to a tranquil place.  I'm able to stay focus on the project and I always look forward to working on it when I have a spare moment.
  3. Go to the movies: Who doesn't love a great movie??  Even if you have no one to go with, just go!! Put your phone on silence, get a large popcorn and a slurpee and go!  You'll be surprised how great you feel afterwards.
  4. Binge watch your favorite or a new show:  If you don't feel like hopping in your car to drive to the theater, no problem.  Netflix and Hulu (I have both), has got you covered with great tv shows and movies to watch.  Steam an either series and let your mind drift into binge watching heaven!
  5. Candles and a Bath: I'm not a bath type of girl.  Showers are more of my thing, but there are times when a warm bath just works.  Add some candles, and you now have a perfect escape!  I love the candles from Bath & Body Works.  There are many scents to choose from to help get you in the right state of mind.
  6. Talk it out: Talk to someone you trust about how you are feeling; someone who will not judge you or make you feel worst.  Holding everything in is toxic. Let it go!
  7. Cry it out: Even after talking, I sometimes need to cry. I look gross during a cry it out session, but afterwards my head is clear and I'm ready to work through whatever comes my way.
  8. Take a drive:  I don't know about you, but I love my car and when I have a chance to get away, I just get in it and drive.  I usually end up finding a new favorite restaurant or a cool boutique. Win-Win.
  9. Play with your kids: My son (2 years old) is hilarious! He always brightens my day and reminds me how to be more carefree.
  10. Write: Blogging is actually a huge stress reliever for me as well as writing my thoughts in my journal.  Blogging is a creative outlet for me and when I journal, it gives me a chance to think through things.  It just helps to make possible solutions appear more clearly.
  11. Listen to music: A good song always helps to ease my mind.  Singing as loud as you can is fun!  Who cares who's listening?
  12. Hang out with a good friend: Grab a drink, go to the mall, or getting a mani/pedi with a good friend is a great way to get your mind off your everyday stresses.  While your hanging out, just enjoy the moment.
  13. Play a game: I enjoy a specific kind of game, the ones that take you into another reality.  Sims is my ultimate fav when I have lots of time to kill and want to just chill out.   Recently, Pokemon Go has really grabbed my attention.  It really brings me back to those days when I use to memorize PokeRaps! And another plus, it helps me get my 10,000 steps for the day. #FitGamer
  14. Color:  Have you heard of adult coloring books?  If not, they are pretty cool.  You can pick one up from Target, Walmart, Michaels, etc and lose yourself in very intricate designs that you turn into a masterpiece.  You'll feel much better afterwards, trust me!
  15. Pray: I don't pray as much as I as should, but when I'm feeling extremely out of it, I pray for strength and peace of mind.

Do you have any stress relief methods that work for you?? Tell my all about them in the comments.
