I’ve never had a place to call my own before.

I am moving, with my boyfriend, into our very own two bedroom apartment. I’ve been dreaming of this for a while now and I can’t believe how lucky we are to have our own place in Melbourne for the rest of the year.

I’ve already been conjuring beautiful images of how I would like to decorate and what I would like to do with the place. However I’ve had to curb these thoughts because our budget will be tiny to make the place feel like home.

Australia has this crazy culture of throwing stuff out and putting it on the pavement for people to take before the 'bin-men' come and take it away. We found two gorgeous white leather sofas in great condition last week, so we have put them into storage ready for the move! What a lucky find!

I got all excited and immediately started to plan my ideal interior design around them.

I really love the monochrome trend and I think it will work well in a small space and with our newly found white sofas (that look just like the photo.) The living room is a little dark and there isn’t a lot of natural light. My first inclination would be to paint the room white to brighten it up, however I would like to paint the walls a neutral light grey, so that the white sofas don’t disappear into white wall and make the place feels like a doctors office.

I’d like to hang several of the hexagon shelves in a group on the wall and dress it up with tiny pots of greenery and nic-nacs.

Believe it or not, everything above is from Ikea and K-Mart and nothing shown above costs more than AUD $39 (£20!!!) Excluding the rug that is $120 (£60.)

Make sure to follow me and look out for pictures of my finished living room!
