It's that time of year again where everyone starts hitting the gym and incorporating a salad or two into their diet in order to reach their "new year new me" goals. While working out and eating healthy is excellent, there's always those people who are cancelling their gym memberships by January 2nd. If you're one of those people, fear not, because there's another way you can make yourself look slimmer for the new year. Or if you're someone who does stick to their resolutions, this tip will help give you an extra boost. So what is this extra special tip? Slimming patterns and colors. That's right. It's as simple as that. Here are five patterns you can wear to make yourself look even better than you already do.

  1. Go darker

Dark greens, blues, blacks and greys are excellent at making your body appear slimmer to the eye.

2. Vertical Stripes

NOT HORIZONTAL STRIPES!! Horizontal stripes make everything appear wider, while vertical stripes create long and lean lines 

3. Color blocking

Panels of color are strategically placed to shave inches off your waist/thighs/anywhere making you appear to look slimmer

4. Layering

Layer that tshirt with a flowy cardigan to draw attention away from your waist
