Richest female in her genre of music and the only female to have seven singles simultaneously on the Billboard 100 chart , Nicki Minaj , is definitely the most successful female rapper of her times.

Her core genre being music , she has also been seen in the movie “the other woman” with cameron diaz , judge for one season on “American idol” , voice for steffie in ice age : continental drift, is very active on social media and in fashion and has launched several of her fragrances. Besides this she has done commercials for adidas originals. Pepsi ’s “live for now” campaign, MAC Cosmetics and has a clothing line with kmart called the “Nicki Minaj Collection”. As a philanthropist her most appreciated act was the offer to pay tuition fee of college students given that they get a gpa more than 4.0. In words of her  label-mate Lil Wayne she is “an icon” who has “reached far beyond anything I would have imagined. Nicki will go down as one of the best to do it in the history of music.”

But as in all success stories , this story also has its own struggles. Originally born as Onika Tanya Maraj on December 8, 1982, in Saint James, Trinidad and Tobago, nicki moved with her family to Queens, New York, when she was five years old. Shortly after moving to queens, her father got addicted to drugs.there was repeated batter with  wife and kids and once he even attempted to burn down their house while Nicki's mother was inside the house. However he later got into rehab and returned healed but the time during the dispute was which affected nicki as a child very much. To add to her troubles Nicki had to go through an abortion at the age of 15 after being raped which she called a very difficult decision of her life.

She used to try to find her escape from the family fights and other issues  where she consoled herself by fantasizing that when she'll get older she will be successful and will change her and her family’s fate. For this she developed several alter ego’s of herself the famous of which are Cookie , Harajuku Barbie before settling for Nicki Minaj.

She started rapping at the age of twelve. She took a music course at the Elizabeth Blackwell Middle School and she also successfully auditioned in Fiorello H. LaGuardia, which focuses on visual and performing arts. But her acting career didn't took off even after this. She took a lot of steady jobs to support herself and was fired from most of them.

In order to make it into the music industry Nicki Minaj joined a rapping group called  "The Hood$tars". Later  she went solo and started to upload her work on her MySpace profile where she was discovered by Dirty Money CEO Fendi who eventually signed her. Minaj released her first mixtape, Playtime is Over in  2007 and her second, Sucka Free in 2008.

After this she signed a recording contract with Lil wayne’s Young Money Entertainment. In november 2010,Nicki Minaj’s next album “pink Friday”was released , followed by Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded in April 2012 and The Pinkprint in december 2014 .

In December 2011, Minaj was nominated for three Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Best Rap Album for Pink Friday and she won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video for "Super Bass", marking her first VMA win.


Nicki Minaj recently  launched her fourth album called “queen” on august 10 2018.  Despite being surrounded by many controversies including her fashion choices, her fall out with Mariah on American Idol or feuds with her ex boyfriend - she continues to be on multiple high-profile events performing with all the top artists of her  times including the likes of Madonna, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Lil Wayne the weeknd.

She has been on a steady path of success stories with her hard work which helps her to push her talent to new levels every has made her a successful woman in a music category generally dominated by men. She has made her presence felt all over the world with her music and continues to grow it step by step.
