I want to to talk to you about green smoothies!!! Being a high school student with loads of classwork that also carries the task of a part-time job amongst other responsibilities, I have been known to sneak and try to fuel my body with junk. And once you slip anything as remotely addicting as sugar, you start craving it more and more. Then… it’s hard to get back on track.

Can you relate?

This is why I love green smoothies. They are so easy to make and store, especially for on-the-go. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not one of those people that glorify green smoothies to the death and drink them every few hours daily in place of actual meals. That is NOT what is best for your body. They are not meal replacements. Green smoothies shouldn’t be used for a “quick two-week weight loss remedy” or anything that magazines, commercials, or even health guides portray. They have natural health benefits of course which is WHY they are considered so good for you (when made the right way, but I’ll talk about that in another post). Perfect little boosts of energy when you need it!

Here are a few of their benefits:

  1. Antioxidants
  2. Increased energy
  3. Mental clarity and focus
  4. Clearer skin
  5. Reduce cravings

When making a smoothie you can’t just throw random things into the blender. Chances are, it’ll taste nasty if you just wing it. To save you a few smoothie-fails, follow this simple formula: 60% fruits to 40% leafy greens.
