One More Candle Needs To Be Lit

Graying strands
Receding hairline
20 kgs overweight
A firm decision
To work them off
But laziness prevails.

Certain morning stiffness
In your joints
Staring at my face
In the bathroom mirror
And wish I hadn't
The puzzled wisdom prevails.

Is it the mid life crisis?
Or just me, being a petulant baby?

Faint traces of wrinkles
Of many laughs and many frowns
The presence of absences
Of children, filling the void
Short temper…?
Or zero tolerance to bull shit…?

Maybe old habits are just getting in the way
My life is on the brink
Of deconstructing itself
To the periphery of the universe
A discourse of silence
Insomnia; comfort eating; solitude.

Is it the mid life crisis?
Or just me, being a petulant baby?

Having made friends
With unemployment
Whilst my social life
Has conveniently come to a standstill
Actions still being based on reactions
Progression: placid or brisk.

Clock chimes at midnight
A tiny drop of dew,
Hanging like a whisper from my forehead
Trickling down: hot flushes
Sweating; wide awake in bed
Followed by a shiver, cold and true.

Is it the mid life crisis?
Or just me, being a petulant baby?

Maybe one more candle needs to be lit...
