Many people believe that it is easier to breathe through your mouth and that they will take more oxygen that way. You know that feeling when you run for a couple of minutes. Nasal breathing can prevent taking in dirt and dust in our organism. As many germs flow through the air, you can inhale some while breathing through your mouth. The human nose is designed that way to be an obstacle for the pathogens and dirt from the outside.
You probably noticed that the cold winter air gets a bit warmer if it goes through the nose. If the air enters the lungs through the mouth, it won’t warm up as in the first case. Oppositely, when it’s too hot outside, nasal breathing will cool down the hot air.
Nasal breathing affects positively blood oxygen saturation. The more oxygen is absorbed into the blood, the more is transported to the organs.

Oral breathing:

Now that you heard all the pros of the nasal breathing, it is already clear why it is better to breathe through the nose. We don’t say you should keep your mouth shut all the time. There is a reason why people have two breathing options.

Have you noticed that the saliva dries out more when you breathe through your mouth? This occurs even during the day, but you can always control it, as you don’t keep your mouth open the whole time. However, when you fall asleep you lose control over this. Keeping your mouth open, especially when you lie on your back, will lead to dry mouth.

Mouth snoring:

If you breathe through your mouth, the oxygen passes through the throat to get to the lungs. In this way to the lungs are the hard and soft palate, uvula, epiglottis, and trachea, organs, which are important when it comes to snoring. The throat tissue might get fatty.
