I think everybody has heard about this book, or maybe you even read it.

The book Anna Karenina was written by Leo Tolstoi in 1877, but is popular and known until this day, like many other classic books, that are popular over the years.

Mark Twain said something about the classic books “a book which people praise and don’t read” and it’s kinda truth, many people want to have in their home library a lot of classic books, to look smarter, but they don’t read those books. I even know some people that do that, they buy those books only to have them in their home, to show off.

Can a book help you if you don’t read it?! You just have to clean the dust over them.

I can really say and from my personal experience, that my favorites authors are the classics, I prefer to read a classic book instead of a contemporary one, maybe because I am as well kinda classic or conservative, I don’t really know.
The thing is, I love knowing facts from the past, the culture of those people I read about, how would they dress, what would they eat, how would they go from a place to another, for me, all these things are very interesting to read.

One of my favorite books is Anna Karenina. It was a great pleasure to read this book from the beginning to the very end. There are a few books I read almost continuously because they were so interesting I could not let them from my hands.
Anna Karenina enters into this category, this book charmed me, I liked it very very much.

I would not agree with many things she did and I would get angry, I lived every moment, I was sad and I would cry with her, I judged her and I would argue with her.

Anna lives a very boring and monotonous life with her husband and I guess she felt the need to have some passion in her life so she searched that passion in the wrong place.

She met Vronsky, a gorgeous young man when she visited her brother. He was charmed by her beauty and would want to marry her anytime if she would divorce her husband.

Anna did not love her husband anymore, but she could not divorce him, because she lived in a time where people would condemn a divorce (nowadays is something normal to be divorced, and that’s kinda sad), she did not have the courage, but she agrees to have an affair with Vronsky and starts living a double life.

She falls in love so bad with Vronsky that she becomes to idolize him and also, to be jealous and paranoid.
Vronsky, on the other hand, sees that the passion between them starts to extinct, he sees her like a crazy wife, not like a lover and he is so sick of her crisis and jealousy.

Her jealousy becomes, even more, acute, as well the paranoid, and Vronsky, still loving her, hopes that she will get better.

At some point, Anna gets pregnant, she tells the news to Vronsky, they are not glad about this, especially Vronsky because he doesn’t even see a future in this relationship.

Anna falls even more in the claws of the jealousy and crisis, she feels that she’s judged by everybody, she has panic attacks, she’s jealous, people gossip about her and she feels so alone in this situation.

Vronsky is away a lot, because of this work and because he is tired of her, when they are together they only fight because of her attacks and she sees an enemy in everybody.

The baby is born but she doesn’t find a pleasure in him, and she doesn’t want to see him and from this point, she starts having suicidal thoughts.

Vronsky sees that Anna’s not well and tries to help her, but she doesn’t want anything from him, she feels constantly cheated.

Anna doesn't find pleasure in anything, she loses the appetite for life. She doesn’t trust anybody, is depressed and I let you read the big finale. 🙂

Maybe you would think that is only a sad book, maybe it is, but is only a book and we can learn a lot from a book even if it’s only fictional because it’s inspired by our reality.
I loved the book very much and I learned some things from it.

Here I will let you read some quotes from the book, maybe it will encourage you to read it, if you didn’t, by now.

“All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”

“If you look for perfection, you’ll never be content.”

“Respect was invented to cover the empty place where love should be.”

“He stepped down, trying not to look long at her as if she were the sun, yet he saw her, like the sun, even without looking.”

“Spring is the time of plans and projects.”

“Is it really possible to tell someone else what one feels?”

“Be bad, but at least, don’t be a liar, a deceiver!”

“Anything is better than lies and deceit!”

“I always loved you, and if one loves anyone, one loves the whole person, just as they are and not as one would like them to be. -Dolly”
