Regrets, I am sure that we all have a few. Whether it was a missed opportunity or an action you regret; it is an inevitable part of life.

In my 26 years of life, I have accumulated a few regrets. Although, for this post I will be focusing on my High School years.

High School was hell for me; as it was for many people. Instead of enjoying the years before adulthood; exploring new opportunities, I spent them being shy and unconfident. I will always regret that I was so afraid to be myself that I permitted myself to spend high school in complete misery.

As an adult, I now realize that I cannot change how I lived my life in High school; but, It isn’t too late for my future. I am still a shy person by nature; although, I can choose not to let it dictate my opportunities in life. This blog alone is an example of how far I have come. A few years ago I would never have wanted to put my writing online where people might READ it; the very thought would have sent me shaking in my corner of anxiety and fear.

Essentially, my point is that I believe personal growth follows regret. While we cannot move backward in time to change a moment or moments; we can only move forward and use these experiences as lessons for our future.

So, in closing, it doesn’t do anyone a lot of good to dwell on our regrets and end up letting them ruin our chance for a happy life. As Dan Howell from youtube has said, “You are a human with one life and it’s up to you to make it the best life you can.”
