Nico Rosberg will no longer be known as the son of formula one champion Keke Rosberg. The German driver is now a new Formula One World Champion in his own right after clinching his first title on Sunday to match his fathers achievements back in 1982.

Rosberg's second place at the season ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was enough to claim the title ahead of Mercedes team mate Lewis Hamilton and also prevented his arch rival from clinching his third straight title. Nicholas Rosberg finished the season on 385 points, Hamilton ended up on 380 points. The title went down to the wire in a nerve shredding final. With Hamilton purposefully slowing Rosberg down, and with two other drivers hard on his tail and the world championship on the line,  Rosberg did not crack. Hamilton won the race from pole position but Rosberg  was 12 points ahead of him before the race and simply needed to finish the race no lower than third if Lewis Hamilton won.

It was intense, the race, so tough commented Rosberg at the post Abu Dhabi race media conference.
