When I was in high school I used to run on the track team.  One thing the coach always drilled into us was to run through the tape; never slow down near the end of the race.  I have seen videos of runners who have slowed down and were overtaken at the last moment of the race.

In Philippians 3:14 Paul tells us, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (KJV)  He is saying the same thing about the Christian life that my track and field coach told me about running.  The end of the race is no time to slow down.  Actually, it the time that we need to run with even more effort and determination.

Just because we age, it does not mean there is less for us to do.  God still has plans for everyone, regardless of age.  A younger person may have a longer future ahead of them but God still has expectations and plans for every one of His children.  Because of this, we need to ensure that we keep pressing on to finish the race God has set before us.
