One of my favourite Christmas carols is “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear”.  I especially like the verse that begins “And ye, beneath life's crushing load.”  This is a sentiment to which many of us can relate.  At this time of year many people feel the crush of busyness in their lives.  For many it is a sad time when they remember loved ones that are no longer with them.  Family is emphasized so much that many with families that are no longer together find the Christmas season a depressing time.

You may then ask why I like that verse so much.  It’s because of the way it ends; “O rest beside the weary road,

And hear the angels sing!”

When we stop and hear the angels sing, we hear the sounds of angelic beings praising God.  No matter what state of mind in which we find ourselves, the angelic voices praising God will pull us through.  When I take time to listen to those voices an amazing thing happens, I find myself joining in.

Psalms 30:11 expresses nicely what happens when we praise God.  “You have changed my sadness into a joyful dance; you have taken away my sorrow and surrounded me with joy” (Good News)  Try praising Him and experience that joy that will come.
