We know that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law. And we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we might be made right with God because of our faith in Christ. Not because we have obeyed the law. For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law.
Galatians 2:16 NLT

The last line of that verse needs to be something we remind ourselves regularly. “For no one will ever be made right with God by obeying the law”.
We need to realise that the law is good. However if you have decided to enter into Covenant with The Lord then the law has served its purpose. The law was given to be a schoolmaster to Jesus. It was solely designed to cause us to see our state of sinfulness and need of a saviour.
If you have now come to that place and received the finished work on the cross, you no longer need to be comparing your actions alongside the law.

We are taught in Jeremiah 31:33 of the coming Messiah, when He comes that the laws will now be in our hearts. We as born again believers are now directed through the indwelling Spirit that will guide us into all righteousness. We do not need to be comparing ourselves amongst ourselves, or lining up our works by the Ten Commandments. We are simply to fellowship in The Word of God and with the Spirit of God and allow Him to teach us and guide us.

The dangerous part of trying to compare our works with those around us, is that we will fall short and allow condemnation to halt us in our tracks. No two people are alike and God has a plan and purpose for each and every one of us. To conform our living according to another person’s role in the body can potentially see us discouraged and quit.

Our works come out of our relationship with God, any other works are self-effort and self-righteous.  Our motive needs to always be one of loving Jesus. We love others out of the fact that He first loved us. As you push into your relationship with the lord He will lead you into different works and serving, however it will be done through a heart of love towards God, not pressure from people, or condemnation of comparing ourselves with the law.

I encourage you today to seek God with a heart that knows it has been made righteous through faith in Jesus alone. Just as we learnt in Galatians 2:16, the law can never make a person right before God, which is the whole reason He came in the flesh to save us.

(Heb 10:22 [HCSB])
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.

If we come to God with a humble, honest heart (a true heart) fully persuaded that we are saved, we will live victorious. It’s only through lies the enemy will sow saying “you will never make it”, “you have always suffered with this”, “you’re just an addict”. This will hinder your relationship with God. Not because God is affected by those things, but because you will never truly feel worthy enough for a Holy God. We need to realise it is not by our works of Holiness that make us right with God, but our faith in trusting what Jesus did on the cross.

Cast off all condemnation today and allow God to fill your heart with love and grace. Don’t compare yourself with others around you wondering if you are ever “doing enough”. Know that God is with you and on your side. If God be for you, who can be against you.

Be blessed today
