Freckles are gorgeous anytime of the year, but they are even more desirable in the summertime.

Fun fact: I naturally have freckles. However, I like full coverage makeup, so my freckles inevitably disappear. So for all you girls out there without that natural sun kissed speckled face, or for girls like me who cover their freckles with makeup, this tutorial is for you!

You’ll want to start this look with your everyday foundation routine. I completed my entire face before starting with my faux freckles. You can go for full glam or you can do what I did and go for a more natural, fresh faced look.

How To:

I started with this Hard Candy bronzer in “Bombshell” as a base for my freckles. I used a MAC 129 blush brush to apply the product on the tops of the apples of my cheeks and bridge of my nose. Basically I was going for the look of a bit of tanned/sunkissed skin. Since this bronzer has a strong pinkish/red undertone, it mimicked the look of being touched by the sun’s rays.

For the freckles themselves, brow products are the way to go. Brow products usually have a more natural tone to them and they tend to wear a bit softer. I would recommend using two of the following three products. You want one product that is softer and one that has a bit of a stronger impact. Natural freckles have a fuller layer of soft, smaller spots with darker and larger ones scattered on top, so using two types of products will create that effect perfectly.

For application, a small eyeliner brush makes it super effortless. I used the MAC 210 eyeliner brush. I started by using the NYX Nude Matte shadow in “Tryst.” The second product I used was Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade in “Soft Brown.” Any of the shades in her range that lean brown would work for faux freckles. I would avoid the shades in “Ebony,” “Auburn,” or “Granite.” Another secondary product that would work perfectly for faux freckles is Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer. It’s a soft pencil with an angle that can be used at the tip for the perfectly placed freckle.

To create the freckles, I started with “Tryst” and created a full layer of small, soft freckles. Take care not to make them look too perfectly placed. Some should be closer together, almost overlapping, while others should be further apart. Natural freckles are sporadic and imperfect- that’s the best part. After completing the layer of soft shadow freckles, I used the pomade to create some more defined, slightly larger freckles. Keep in mind that these freckles should also be super sporadic and randomly placed.

Faux freckles are beautiful for the summertime and make a perfect beachy look. This is going to be my go-to for my upcoming beach vacation! They are quick, easy, and look effortless and feminine. The best part is that the Anastasia Beverly Hills pomade I used is waterproof, making it perfect for the beach or pool.

What’s on the rest of my face?

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer “Radiance” – This primer from Laura Mercier is gorgeous. I love to pair this with matte foundation products like I did today. It adds a subtle glow and promotes hydration while preventing makeup from looking too dry and matte.

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint – This tinted moisturizer-type product creates a flawless complexion without being too heavy. You can still see a bit of skin through it which makes a summery, natural look.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer – I love this concealer! It’s full coverage but it’s also waterproof, which is perfect for hot summer days. It stays in place without creasing or caking and provides beautiful full coverage.

Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation – I used a fluffy brush to apply this powder all over my face for a bit of additional coverage and to set my face. Using a denser brush would provide fuller coverage, but using a fluffy brush like I did today gives a beautiful finish without caking up.

NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder “Sunny” – This bronzer is a drugstore gem. It’s a matte, medium toned bronzer that works on most skin tones, and the best part is that it’s literally under $3.00. I used a fluffy brush to sweep this all over my face for a tanned look.

Benefit Boxed Powder “Coralista” – Benefit Boxed Powders are gorgeous and “Coralista” is no exception. It’s a peachy, coral color with a subtle shimmer, which is perfect for the fresh faced look I was going for today.

NYX Prismatic Shadow “Girl Talk” – While this is technically an eyeshadow from NYX, it makes a stunning cheekbone highlighter. It’s an opalescent pink that I sweeped on the tops of my cheekbones, bridge of my nose, and Cupid’s bow.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer “Soft Brown” – To continue the softer look, I went with less dramatic brows than normal today. I used the Anastasia pencil to create defined yet natural brows. I used one coat of Anastasia Beverly Hills clear brow gel on top to set them in place.

MAC Eye Shadow “Nylon” – This MAC shadow is hands down my all time holy grail makeup product. I use it almost every single day as a brow bone and inner corner highlight and today was no exception. It’s a frosty, white gold shadow with a shimmer that won’t quit.

CoverGirl The Super Sizer Mascara – If you haven’t tried this mascara from CoverGirl, you need to! It’s super inexpensive, accessible, and not to mention, it’s BOMB. It provides volume, length, and keeps your lashes looking soft instead of clumpy. I only did one coat today on my top lashes and skipped the lower lashes to keep my eyes looking bright and feminine.

NYX Butter Gloss “Tiramisu” – I finished my look today with a NYX Butter Gloss. They are thick without being sticky and provide a huge punch of color. This particular shade is natural with a little hint of pink and it’s one of my go-to shades.

Overall, I love faux freckles! I will be rocking these all summer long. Have you tried faux freckles? What are your favorite products for a fresh faced summer look? Comment below and let me know how you rock the sun kissed speckled look.

Love, Ash
