Hello Miners, Crafters, and Minecrafters! Welcome to the Step-by-Step Minecraft Guide to building The Rookery: Foundation. If you haven't read my guides on The Grid and Scaffolding, make sure to check those out.

Here's what you'll need:

Materials

  • Cobblestone x778
  • Stone Bricks x98
  • Dirt x24

Tools

  • Pickaxe
  • Shovel

Let's get started!

Step 1:

Find a nice open area to build The Rookery. You'll need to clear out at least a 30x30 area. Though I'd suggest clearing 40x40 or more. Depends on how much space you want around your castle!

I think these villagers need a king!

This could take awhile...

Coffee break!

Why are we doing this again?

Finished!

Step 2:
Place Stone Bricks in a square of 25x25. This will be the outline for our foundation.

Step 3:

Fill in your foundation with Cobblestone; 576 blocks worth!

Step 4:

Create grid marks by placing Dirt (or any block that stands out) next to each odd numbered block on the x and y axes. The corner block is 1.

Step 5:

Create a 7-block diameter circle of Cobblestone. Start at (3, 1) and make a row of 3 blocks. Then place 1 block diagonally from the end of the row. Continue diagonally and build  a column of 3 blocks up along the y-axis. Continue around until you have a complete circle.

Repeat on the remaining 3 corners. This is the base for our towers!

Step 6:

Starting at the (2, 7) point, place a row of Cobblestone along the y-axis to connect the tower bases. Do the same starting from the (6, 7) point.

Repeat on the remaining 3 sides. This is the base of our walls!

Step 7:

Starting at the (9, 9) point, create a 9x9 square out of Cobblestone. This is the foundation of our stronghold!

Step 8:

Remove your grid marks and you're done! Now you have a good idea of your castle's floor plan.

Stay tuned for the next step!
