The other day, I heard two disc jockeys on the radio arguing over 2016's "song of the summer." One said it was DNCE's "Cake by the Ocean," https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWaRiD5ym74, and the other said it was Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop the Feeling" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru0K8uYEZWw.

I really love both of those songs, but the ultimate summer song for me will always be "Summertime," by George Gershwin, sung by Billie Holiday.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYUqbnk7tCY

I don't know why that song strikes a chord with me. I must have been a Southern black woman in the 1930s. Or maybe George Gershwin.

What song epitomizes summer to you?
