I had regular acne as a teenager but in 2012 it started getting painful and out of control. If you’ve felt the wrath of prescription acne medication, I know you’re open to trying just about anything so take the time. I feel like this wouldn’t be as effective if I didn’t have before and after pictures. Luckily I was able to find this one I made in 2012. This was before paleo. The 80/20 paleo lifestyle helped a lot but I was still not comfortable leaving the house without makeup. I didn’t like to go swimming or staying over at peoples houses because I didn’t want anyone to see what my face actually looked like. It wasn’t regular acne, it was cystic and they were often filled with blood that would always ruin my pillow covers. I had to put ice on my face and take Advil to be able to lay on my side when it was at it’s worst. Here are some but not all of the products and medication I’ve tried: ProActive Vichy Normaderm 3 Step Line La Roche-Posay Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Clinique Acne Solutions Line Kiehl’s Blue Herbal (this is the one I’m using now) Tea Tree Oil Benzoyl Peroxyde Doxycycline (daily for 3 months) Tretinoin Adapalene Clindamycin Retin-A Micro Gel Homeopathy and supplements like allicin I’ve refused Accutane and Yaz, I don’t think I need to explain why. “WELL HOW THE F*** DID YOU GET RID OF IT?” Okay okay okay. I do have a routine set up but the main hero is Apple Cider Vinegar. There are a few different ways to use it based on how sensitive your skin is. Make your solution and dab it on your face with a cotton pad twice daily, once in the morning and once at before bed. Tea tree oil will help with inflammation. You can also add other essential oils to make it smell nice, or add lavender if you know your acne stems from stress and anxiety. It works by balancing your skins pH. I didn’t know how important your body’s pH was until I read The Acid-Alkaline Food Guide by Dr. Susan E. Brown. I rinse it off with cold water and pat dry in the morning so that my face doesn’t smell like vinegar all day but I leave it on all night. Test on a small part of your skin first in case you have a reaction. Not Sensitive My skin has seen it all, and I wanted intense relief so I do not dilute it at all. 1 cup Apple Cider Vinegar 1 tsp Tea tree oil Normal Whatever normal is. 1/2 cup Apple Cider Vinegar 1/2 cup Filtered Water 1 tsp Tea tree oil Sensitive Skin Skin has feelings too. 1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar 3/4 cup Filtered Water 1 tsp Tea tree oil The proof is in the pudding. I have no acne left, just some scarring to deal with. The Apple Cider Vinegar will also help regenerate skin cells over time because of the vitamin A it contains. 80/20 Paleo – Doxycycline and Tretinoin 80/20 Paleo – Apple Cider Vinegar, Tea tree oil and magnesium supplement (after 2 weeks) I genuinely hope this works for you and that you find relief and regain your confidence. If you have any extra tips you’d like to add, post it in the comments. K EXTRA TIPS I use a really good full coverage makeup so I can at least hide my pain. Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Long Wear Foundation Seriously this shit stays on during hot yoga. YES, Lancome. I take a magnesium supplement daily that helps with stress management. I’ve noticed a difference taking it. Someone also recommended turmeric to me, I just haven’t actually found it in capsule form. I drink 2 cups of bone broth every single day. It’s very easy to make large batches and store in mason jars. The collagen can help strengthen your skins acne defence. It also helps you look younger, and makes your hair and nails stronger as a bonus. My nails are reallyyyy strong so something must be working. Recipes are in the Soup Category of my blog.
