I

Am

A

Squirrel.

I dive

hop,

fly,

zigzag,

and disappear between trees.

up,

down,

upside down,

over, under,

back around.

But of my flighty circus, you can only catch a glimpse.

For before you know it I am one of the forest’s nymphs.

You see me on the ground

shoving my shovel-shaped face

into the dirt.

But come closer,

I beg you

Then, like a magician’s mistress,

I disappear

Into an endless game

Of hide-and-seek-peek-a-boo

Around my endless carousel

In whose shade you must wait.
