THE BEAUTY HACK NO ONE TELLS YOU ABOUT

We live in age instant gratification. Instant results. Instant oatmeal. Instant streaming. Instant, instant, instant. Perpetuating this belief, we expect our bodies to conform to this efficiency, and what we fail to realize is our bodies don’t work like this. And if we do realize this, we still try to force our bodies to conform to this desire to “glow-up”. I think this is all bullshit, to be honest. We always say everything takes time and great things take even more time, but we forget that when we think of ourselves. Here’s something you need to understand:

YOU DESERVE THE TIME IT TAKES TO BECOME THE GREATEST VERSION OF YOURSELF

It won’t happen overnight, but when it happens, it will outlive all the temporary beauty hacks you’ve tried to force.

Skincare is becoming a more important topic in the beauty industry and I am so happy about that. It doesn’t matter how much makeup you put on, if you have crusty skin, it will show. Highlight, though I love it, cannot replace the glow of moisturized and toned skin. I believe natural skincare is the best way to care for your skin. Punishing your skin with hefty amounts of benzoyl peroxide and other chemicals is not going to force your skin into submission. Care for yourself the right way, you deserve it.

WHY NATURAL SKIN CARE?

According to Global Healing Center, many ingredients in personal care products are “endocrine-disrupting phthalates or parabens”. That just sounds bad doesn’t it? These phthalates and parabens may “cause reproductive issues and they’re linked to increased cancer risk”.¹ Oh, and remember what I said about giving yourself time? Here’s what they had to say on that:

"Remember that having radiant-looking skin is an ongoing process, not a destination. Depending on your starting point, it may take days or months to really see the full results of implementing an organic skin care routine and a healthy lifestyle. Stay focused and give it a chance to work.”¹

So now that you understand why I am a big believer in taking care of yourself in a way that respects you as a human, here’s some products I believe in that I have tested myself. Remember that brands that work for me may not work for you, try all types, but don’t give up too fast. A product may need a month to really work, so don’t dismiss it in a week.

MOISTURIZERS:

I use these primarily on my face, and they are great as a primer and for after showers. Tip: Try to not wear a whole face of foundation but instead use a little to cover breakouts, then use moisturizer on your face. Your skin will be hydrated, giving you a natural highlight that is not manufactured. If you don’t want to jump into something so drastic, start with your nose. Replace foundation on your nose with moisturizer and work up from there.

BURT’S BEES INTENSE HYDRATION DAY LOTION with clary sage

This is a super gentle moisturizer that leaves skin feeling very soft for hours.

SHEA MOISTURE DAILY GLOW PRIMING MOISTURIZER with coconut milk and acacia senegal

If you are a big fan of coconut scents, this is the moisturizer for you. This is a super hydrating moisturizer that makes you smell like you’re on a perpetual beach vacation.

FACE WASH:

You want a natural face wash. If your skin burns with your current face wash, you need to try this. I mean that’s like burning your house down to get rid of clutter then claiming that’s your version of cleaning. I have tried other products but this one is by far the best:

BURT’S BEES FACIAL CLEANSER [SENSITIVE] with cotton extract

This cleanser feels like a moisturizer and gently removes dirt, oil, and makeup off your skin, allowing it to breathe. It is hypoallergenic is accepted by the National Eczema Association so if skin irritation or eczema is something you struggle with, this is the perfect cleanser for you.

LOTION:

A natural substitute for body lotion that I love is coconut oil. Now, I understand coconut oil is a controversial skin care ingredient. Some people say that it clogs your pores and causes excess oil build up on your skin. I was a semi-believer in that until I watched Valeria Lipovetsky on Youtube and she swore by this stuff. So I decided to make my own opinion of it, and it works so well. I like to use it after the shower so that it’s being applied on to clean skin. In addition, I like using gentler lotions

SHEA MOISTURE 100% EXTRA VIRGIN COCONUT OIL

DIONIS GOAT MILK HAND CREAM

Now, I know what you’re thinking- the goat milk thing had me shook as well. But, I was chatting with one of their representatives and she said that goats have a similar pH to that of humans so this lotion absorbs more readily into the skin. I am not qualified to validate that statement but what I can say is that it I’m a believer. This lotion works so well and lasts for hours.

OILS & SPRAY:

BURT’S BEES CLEANSING OIL with coconut and argan oils

BURT’S BEES FACIAL OIL with rosehip seed extract

MARIO BADESCU SKINCARE FACIAL SPRAY with aloe, herbs, and rosewater

If you’re still skeptical, try one product and see how you like it. If you’re excited for a change, buy all the products. If you can’t afford all the products, try the cheapest one here. For a skincare post I am going to get deep. This journey of skincare resembles that of life. Have fun and most importantly, do it your way.

As always remember to be better than the former you!

Love,

Annie
