Throwback Thursday and Flashback Friday are the two very popular social sharing trends, especially on Instagram. If you post a photo/video from the past on a Thursday then it is tagged as #throwbackthursday or #tbt and if you post a photo/video from the past on a Friday then it is tagged as #flashbackfriday or #fbf. But, what's the difference between the two? Hmm, let's look at the two tags in depth and try to figure it out! :)

The definition of the word "throwback" is a person or thing that is similar to someone or something from the past or that is suited to an earlier time. In comparison, the word "flashback," actually has two definitions: a part of a story or movie that describes or shows something that happened. The definitions look slightly different from each other, but if you look at it closely, they both mean the same thing - to reflect upon memories of the past.

So, since the two words mean the same thing (well, almost) and they don't come with a preset of rules, we can conclude that they are the same kinds of events just happening on different days of the week! However, here are some fun facts about these tags:

  • Flashback Friday is useful for people who forget to post on Thursday, or for people who enjoy Throwback Thursday so much that they'd prefer to post as much and as often as they can. (Two days a week is better than one!)
  • The picture must be at least 5 years old, a photo from last week or last weekend is not allowed! (I break this rule, like every week :P )
  • An app called Lango, helps you in sending out animations to friends, introduces a new throwback package every week! Maybe worth a try for anyone who uses these tags on a regular basis.

Do you use #tbt and or #fbf tags frequently? If yes, which one do you use more frequently?
