I was at my computer the other day and a solitary fly buzzed around my head.  Even when he left to circle the room, the buzzing irked me.  He was close enough to cause annoyance but never it seemed, close enough to swat.  When I left to go to the bathroom he followed me there.  Everywhere I went, he seemed to follow.  Unfortunately for him, he eventually got too close.  It was a short funeral.  He lost, I was victorious.

Sin in our lives is much like that fly.  It’s bothersome and we want it gone.  Where ever we go, it often seems to follow.  Every time we think we have escaped its clutches, it reappears, always bugging us.  But there is good news.  As with my fly, sin can have a short funeral.

In The Message, the first part of 1 John 5:4 says, “Every God-begotten person conquers the world’s ways.”  It is the ways of the world that lead us into sin.  If God is with us, we are more than able to conquer and have victory over any sin.
