There’s an old hymn penned by Charles Gabriel that is titled ‘More Like the Master’.  It’s a wonderful goal for us to have in life.  What could be more desirable than to be like Jesus?  It’s a wonderful and lofty goal, but is it attainable?

Whether or not you feel it is a goal that is attainable does not really matter.  The important thing to keep in mind is that if we keep that as our goal we will always be on the right track.  On any kind of journey it is easy to get distracted and led astray.  If we keep trying to be more like Jesus then it will be easier to assess our journey and correct our course.

The last part of Hebrews 12:1 and the start of verse 2 tells us; “let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.”(KJV) If we look to Him and strive to run a race that at its completion will make us more like Him, we cannot help but win.
