The other day I overheard two teenagers talking.  One said, “Don’t you like the way my backpack matches my clothes.”  I didn’t even realize this was a consideration.  My thought has always been the backpack is meant to carry things and throw in the corner.  Many people are concerned about looks, and that can be a good thing.  Dress, manners and the way a person carries themselves is important.  It is just as important, however, not to make it an all consuming passion.

I’m sure God enjoys it when we look and behave our best.  However, He can see past all this and see what is really on the inside, in our heart.  We are told in 1 Samuel 16:7, when David was being chosen as the king of Israel, “for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”

We can pretend to be something we aren’t and fool many people.  We cannot fool God.  He sees past the exterior and can see into our heart.  No matter how good, or bad, you think you are, or what kind of impression you make on others, God ignores all that and sees the motives of your heart.
