First, let me just say Colleen Thompson has written a book that is so captivating you won't be able to put it down. I read the 352 page book in one day because I just had to know who was trying to hurt Christina.

Amazon Description

Winter winds off the Atlantic have turned the tourist mecca of Seaside Creek, New Jersey, into a ghost town. Dr. Christina Paxton, however, is growing accustomed to living with ghosts. Recently widowed, the emergency room physician has returned to the shore with her young daughter, house-sitting a sprawling beachside Victorian home. One night, her two-year-old calls her by a name that makes Christina’s blood run cold and sends her thoughts spiraling back thirty years.

Deeply unnerved, and certain someone else is in the house, she flees with her child into the cold night, only to come face-to-face with Chief Harris Bowers, a former classmate with whom Christina has a complicated history. Now divorced, Harris hopes to mend their past, but Christina is wary of being played for a fool again. As threats emerge, Christina and her small family find themselves in grave danger. It seems there is no one she can put her trust in—least of all herself.

I have always been HUGE Criminal Minds fan and reading The Off Season made me feel like I could have been reading a script from one of the Criminal Minds episodes. This story is full of mystery and even has some romance thrown in. There are so many secrets being kept by the characters of the story that you are constantly trying to piece different bits of information together to figure out exactly what has already happened or who is involved in what.

The way Thompson had the story flash to short scenes following the actions of the character who was after Christine added to the mystery and really had me trying to tie in every little piece of information to figure out who it could be.

Overall this was a great story and I plan on reading more of Colleen Thompson's work.
