Pakistan's legendary and most respected person,a philanthropist,social activist ,the world's greatest living humanitarian and a man who was known as the "Angel of Mercy". 

Abdul Sattar Edhi,the legend of Pakistan,our hero passed away yesterday 8th July 2016 at the age of 88.

He was like a candle,he burnt to give others light.A richest poor man,who spend his entire life in welfare of humanity. Born in 1928  in Gujrat, British India and migrated to Pakistan in 1947. Edhi dedicated his whole life to serving and aiding the poor. He founded Edhi Foundation which continues to grow in both size and service , and is currently the largest welfare organisation in Pakistan.

In Karachi the Edhi Foundation rans 8 hospitals providing free medical care, eye hospitals, diabetic centres, surgical units, a 4- bed cancer hospital and mobile dispensaries. In addition to these the Foundation also managed two blood banks in Karachi.

20,000 abandoned babies have been saved,40,000 qualified nurses have been trained,50,000 orphans are housed in Edhi Homes,1 million babies have been delivered in Edhi Maternity Centres. 

Abdul Sattar Edhi in his lifelong service of mankind received several prestigious awards as well.

He received the 1986 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service.

He was also the recipient of the Lenin Peace Prize and the Balzan Prize. 

In 2006, Institute of Business Administration Pakistan conferred an honoris causa degree of Doctor of Social Service Management for his services. 

In September 2010, Edhi was also awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Bedfordshire. In 1989, Edhi received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz from the Government of Pakistan.

 

Words are not enough to describe how great of a person he was and his never ending service to mankind,he was an ideology, a person with a simple lifestyle. He lived like the poor but dedicated every bit of his time and money to his nation.

His inspirations were Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Mother Teresa .He  said Humanitarianism was his Religion.

 

Chiefs of all three armed forces of Pakistan along with thousands of mourners attended his funeral prayers at National Stadium Karachi. A military guard of honor and gun salute was presented at his funeral ,He shall be remembered .He was and will remain our true inspiration.
