“The truth of the matter is that there’s nothing you can’t accomplish if: (1) You clearly decide what it is that you’re absolutely committed to achieving, (2) You’re willing to take massive action, (3) You notice what’s working or not, and (4) You continue to change your approach until you achieve what you want, using whatever life gives you along the way.” – Tony Robbins

Successful people think different than the rest of other people. That’s why one of the things I like to do is to learn from them and pick up their minds; what are they thinking and their approaches to life and what are their approach to success.

Everybody has their own definition and description concerning success. This is a broad subject to analyze, but those who have learned to keep it simple they have realized success is a matter of getting the results you want. It can be on daily, monthly, yearly basis, or mission and goal accomplishment basis, a progress thing, and so on. What can look to you as a success, but to somebody else can look like a totally different thing. This is why it’s good to go on your own perspective of what success looks to you. But it is also good to get out of your box and learn from the renowned successful people and pick up their brains, maybe you can pick up something from them to help you with your own success. And there are so many teachings out there about what success is, and how you can obtain it, so it is a matter of picking what it resonates with you.

Regardless of what success is to you, but we all know it’s not a straight line. If success was a straight line, everybody would have claimed they are successful. There would be no struggles, delays, disappointments, exhaustions, confusions, and et cetera. We have lots of reasons why success is not a straight line. Many of them are part of the growth process.

There are so many success formulas and techniques out there. Remember now, I didn’t say secrets or tricks. According to Colin Powell, “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” So let’s go over “The Ultimate Success Formula” by Tony Robbins. This ‘Ultimate Success Formula’ has four steps or processes.

  • Decide what you want

I don’t know how many successful people I have heard already said about how crucial this is, “Decide what you want.” Know what you want and be clear and precise if that’s what you want and then make a decision to get it, go after it, and achieve it.

Making a decision is a first step to taking action, because our decisions become our actions. Indecisiveness is one of the root causes of inactivity. If you keep changing your mind all the time, you may not get anything done. You have got to make your mind and decide what you want. Make wise decisions because our decisions affect our results.

Whatever it is you want to achieve and succeed, make a decision it’s what you want. Be very clear and precisely about it just like for instance when you order a sandwich from Subway; “I want Italian B.M.T. one foot long parmesan bread with cheese toasted. No onions, put tomatoes, cucumber, pickles, lettuce, black olives, jalapeno peppers, mayonnaise, chipotle sauce, and two white chocolate cookies.”

  • Take action

Just like Tony Robbins’ saying, “It’s not knowing what to do; it’s doing what you know.” If there was going to be secrets to success I would say this is one of them. This is a main ingredient. Successful people take action towards their plans, goals, dreams, and decisions. Wanting to do something is not enough; you have got to take action.

Create for yourself an action written plan for success that you can tackle one thing or  one step at a time. When you take action steps with a plan, that plan becomes like a direction to you, and it keeps you grounded.

Your action plan should have step by step process where everything is organized, this means before you go to the second step, you need to finish the first step first. You know like in College, before they let you take sophomore year courses, they will tell you to finish freshman courses first.

So after you decide what you want, create yourself a step by step plan for you to commit to it in order to achieve your goals, and work towards your success. As Tony Robbins said, “The path to success is to take massive, determined action.”

  • Notice what is working or not

You have created your action plans, you followed up on them, and committed yourself to achieve them by taking massive determine actions. But then, along the way as you continue to work towards your success you found out some of your approaches worked and some they are just not working for you.

So what is important here is to take note of what is working and what is not.  You don’t want to waste your time and energy into something that has proved you time and time that it not working for you. There are going to be periods where you will notice what is working and what is not.

Sometimes what didn’t work for others do not mean won’t work for you, but again you won’t know until you try for yourself. Some people can concentrate on reading even when the music is playing on the background. Others they need quite in order to concentrate and focusing on reading.

  • Change your approach until you achieve what you want

You had your plan, and it didn’t work the way you planned to work, so does it mean you should give up? They say “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, and try again.” Failure is part of success and the process. So success is learning from failure to failure. In other words, as long you don’t quit, you are succeeding.

Changes should always be welcomed as long as they are good changes. After you have tried your first approach and it worked then it means continue doing it, but if it didn’t work, be willing to do something about it so that you can get better results.

Success is not a straight line. The reality is some plans will not work like we expected them too due to various reasons some beyond our control. Sometimes it’s not like our plans are not working, maybe we just need to be more committed to our plans.

When things are not going as planned that can be our opportunity to review our plans again so that we can remove what is not working and replace it with what is working. We need to be flexible to look for new approaches that can give us new different results using whatever life gives us along the way.

And that’s about it; four steps of The Ultimate Success Formula and approach you can apply as you work toward your success.
