“Tough times don’t last; tough people do”. It looks like the predicaments of Ashanti Gold is tougher and has out armed the people managing affairs. It is NEVER startling hearing the problem of football team is as a result of voodoo. Haha… It’s normal to hear. Just like Oti Akenten, chairman of national supporters’ union rubbishing voodoo claims in the media because the team is underperforming. A team of this pedigree, who aims at winning the premiership transfer 11 experienced legs that aided in winning the league title after 19 years. Signs new 19 players this season mostly inexperienced and want to win the league title? Seriously? I don’t think it was the priority of the management this season to make it into the top four spot or qualify for confederations cup or win the league title. No, I don’t think so. Ashanti Gold is the team I have supported for over two decades irrespective of my love for Chelsea, it’s the heartbeat of my town.

TAINTED LEGACY OF BASHIR HAYFORD

David Booth was the first man to get his name penned down into the history books of this wonderful club. By winning three league titles for the “miners”, nineteen years later, Bashir Hayford becomes the next man in charge to win a laurel for the team and supporters. We appreciate sir. Meddling profession with personal has seen many people in a downward spiral of business and life. And that was one of the short falls of Bashir in the Ashgold dressing room. In his case with player Ato Bissah. A needless one it was. If the player is the one who is going to give you results and save you from embarrassment and insult from fans whose specialty is not support but in insult. Why won’t I use him (the player) to fetch my desired results? And prioritize your personal issues of the field? I am inclined to say he had his plans to quit by leaving the team in a messy state.

  • SIGNINGS AND TRANSFERS

After winning the league, 11 players left the winning team as if a back-to-back was an unpardonable felony in the Ghanaian premiership. After new 19 players this season, most inexperienced. You resign your position due to pressure from supporters? Not sure coach Bash, (affectionately called) wanted good for the team by letting majority of these veterans to go. It’s like unplanned parenthood where one parent takes off leaving responsibilities behind for the other.

CUDJOE FIANO ‘MUGABE’

As the long serving Chief Executive of this prodigious team, being in position for this long a time with just a league title makes him a failure irrespective of whatever.

Back in the days where Opoku Agyemang, Daniel Opare, Wakaso and co were in the Obuasi Secondary School team, it was the scariest school team in the Ashanti region. Ashgold as a team as formidable. We had most of the lads that featured for the national U-17 from Ashanti Gold who has rose from academy and playing for the senior team as at that age. Signings didn’t take much of the teams’ budget when it had that strong financial muscle. The academy will not just be supplying the senior side but also generate income by sale of players to other teams and serve the nation as well.

If the management today plan and seek investors to partner them amidst their vast facilities spending on signing will be less and develop other sectors of the game. If Cudjoe Fiano isn’t a failure as a C.E.O., then I don’t know what else can be said about him and his management.

After redundancy in AngloGold Ashanti, bankroller slashed their monthly amount given to the club by half ($50,000 - $25,000). Reducing the revenues that comes into the team. To smoothen the rough edges, why will some players leave for free? I am a fan, a passionate one and need no rocket scientist to tell us sales of players comes with money. Lawerence Lartey who joined Ajax Cape Town about two seasons ago left for free. How? Why? There’s something fishy. Wake up and smell it people.

PARAPHERNALIAS

Shockingly, a team like Ashanti Gold has never sold accoutrements to diehard enthusiasts. Since I joined cheering the team from age seven till today. Individuals merchandise off Ashanti Gold. How much will it cost the management of the team to make nice flags and find sales points around the Obuasi township and the country as a whole that will fetch the team some revenue and prevent people who don’t love Ashgold not to merchandise off the team. And halt people that comes to the stadium with polyester material sown to become flags for the team. Likewise, to jerseys and other gears that could be making strive financially for the club. I know for sure that the mandate of the management is not control but searching other sources that is going to raise the team financially and technically.

ADD SOME LOCALS

In this present Ashgold team, there is ONLY one Obuasi lad in the starting eleven. And it’s a reason why people in the Obuasi area mostly don’t patronize games at the Lenclay. I seem to agree with people of the view that employing locals from Obuasi might get the management in trouble because it will be means to exposing the rotten attitudes of some ranking officials of the club and I agree. But that is will be a reason one will wake up, stand in the scorching sun to watch someone in the same neighborhood play and win. Obuasi has great soccer talents that if scouts of the team are to advice management on recruitment will have a rising and positive consequence on the club.

C.K. AKONNOR

Taking over from Bashir Hayford, C.K., an old player of the team won his first game against league champions and that I can say is the best game so far before end of the first round. I believe he can do a wonderful job by redeeming the team from its fears of being relegated. Time and our support is all he needs to make things work. Let’s rally behind him with our support and sure he can make a change.

Ending this, #FianoMustGo and go with his present pool of administrators. If he failed in keep track of he gets in and out of the team, he is not fit for that position. If he is using his current office as C.E.O and PLB boss to make play for FA boss, then it will serve us no good as a team and nation with this.

This is a piece of the puzzle very few people get. The problem of the team at the beginning was dual. With the resignation of coach Bash it became mono. We should take care not to make the intellect our god. It has, of course powerful muscles, but no personality. It cannot lead, it can only serve.
