I wonder what it would be like,

To run away with you at night.

No sights, no sounds, no one to fight,

Just you and me, our hearts alight.

Can you see the stars in the sky?

Can you see the light in her eye?

As we embrace and start to fly

Over the rooftops of Versailles

Out over the households below,

We see the light of hearths aglow.

Yet this feeling they’ll never know,

For it’s the heat of love we sow.

That is such a beautiful thought,

But in truth it was all for not.

For our king sent me hear to rot

And now I’m something you’ve forgot.
