To celebrate #biweek and yesterday (Sept 23) being Bisexual Visibility day, here's a list of some of my favourite bisexual musicians.

5) Lzzy Hale

Lead singer of four-piece heavy metal band Halestorm, Lzzy Hale confirmed her bisexuality on her personal twitter back in 2015, and confirmed her on-off relationship with guitarist Joe Hottinger.

4) Ani Difranco

Okay, not exactly punk-rock but one of my personal favourites and an icon of the bisexual community. Ani Difranco's music career has focused heavily on the singer-songwriter's sexuality and her experiences being a queer woman. For me, the song In or Out sums up pretty well what it's like to be bisexual.

3) Halseyhalsey-bb25-firefly-performance-2015-billboard-510

Alt pop singer Halsey has been open about her bisexuality since the beginning of her career. The singer has recently been in a feud with Buzzfeed who posted an article discussing the way queer and women-loving-woman in the spot-light can be victims of 'straight-washing' as record labels/producers/agents/whoever think being 'straight-passing' (man, that's a lot of queer slang), will make them more marketable and mainstream.

A fair enough issue and discussion but not if you're using a bisexual woman who's only been in the spotlight for a year or so. Halsey lambasted the news website for suggesting she wasn't "gay enough" or that she wasn't being the 'right kind of bisexual'. The Badlands singer later deleted the tweets, but it's something a lot of bi folks have experienced.

2) Billie Joe Armstrong

Punk giants Green Day's lead singer came out as bisexual in 1995 saying in an interview with The Advocate; "I think I've always been bisexual. I mean, it's something that I've always been interested in. I think people are born bisexual, and it's just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of 'Oh, I can't.' They say it's taboo. It's ingrained in our heads that it's bad, when it's not bad at all. It's a very beautiful thing."

The singer has also stated the song Coming Clean is about his sexuality.

1) Freddie Mercury

Although considered one of the most famous gay men of all time, Freddie Mercury is actually one of the most famous cases of bi-erasure! The Queen front man had a seven year relationship with a woman named Mary Austin, about whom he wrote the song Love of my Life.

According to his arbitrary, Freddie Mercury was a 'self-confessed bisexual'. Mercury is one of the best examples of why events like #biweek and Bisexual Visibility day are so important. Although the stigma is (arguably) deteriorating, many bisexual people still have their identity ignored and the erasure of bisexuality has far reaching consequences.

Hope everyone had a great #biweek and Bisexual Visibility Day. Did you do anything to celebrate?
