Ever wonder what the text books you grew up with left out about history and the world? So did I and now I will share my findings with you in the form of a weekly updated list, if you think there is something worth mentioning that I left out leave a comment. Who knows it may be number 1 for next week's list. In this list I will facts about people, events, places and inventions.

1. Silent hill

The famous Konami fictional games and movies isn't as fictional as you probably hoped for. This was actually based off of a series of events in Centralia, Pennsylvania. As you've probably seen in the movies and games it's a ghost town full of mist. Well the reality is that's spot on. Except the mist is actually smoke, rising from underground originating from a fire in the coal mine in 1962 it became nearly inhospitable due to airborne chemicals such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and methane. At one point the population dwindled to 10 people in 2010. So although pyramid head may not be there, the ghost town of smoke and isolation is with a fire raging beneath.

2. Laurene Powell

We all know Steve jobs innovative, creative and richest man at the time. Well you probably don't know his wife. Far from your stay at home mom she created her own company Emerson collective, that supports policies about education, social injustice, environmental conservation and more. Wow right, talk about a noble family. Not only that she is the mother of three kids (Erin Jobs, Reed Jobs, and Eve Jobs)

3. Dracula

Yes the vampire, no you don't need to buy any garlic, or a steak, but you might need to brace yourself. Vlad also know as Vlad the Impaler was the original Dracula he lived in the 1400's apart of a group known as Order of the Dragon to protect Christianity. The blood sucking part, well he did deal with blood but not as a beverage. He would wash his hands in blood before he at dinner but not drink it. As his name implies he was known for killing, then impaling his enemies on giant wooden stakes as a scare tactic and for cruelty. The rest was added on by authors and minds over the years to give him shapeshifting, blood sucking, immortal attributes.

4. Giants

Growing up I fancied the biblical story of David & Goliath, I mean what's not to love? Plus Jack the giant slayer or even the op giants of Skyrim. Well what if I told you that goliath was real? In February and June of 1931, large skeletons were found in the Humboldt lake bed near Lovelock, Nevada. The first of these two skeletons found measured 8 1/2 feet tall. The second skeleton was almost 10 feet long. Not to mention no matter the country or place there will always be myths of giants of different kind, maybe cause its not a myth. So next time when you read David & Goliath you'll realize you're blessed to not wake up to an 9 foot dictator.

5. Plants

Remember the old superstition "talk to a plant it'll grow faster"? Its true but not for the reason you may believe, when we inhale we inhale oxygen but when we exhale we exhale carbon dioxide and plants need that to grow so an direct flow (words and conversation) help to nurture the plant, not to mention its not bad to tell your cactus about that one person who holds you up on the highway. Green thumbs assemble and speak proudly knowing your plant needs you and your words of randomosity and nonsense.
