Complete and utter calm, can you imagine that? Imagine what the world would be like if we were able to tie up all of the loose ends that we have accumulated over the thousands and thousands of years we’ve been on this Earth, what an illusive concept…

I often wonder what life would be like if I were able to tie up every loose end in my life. Where would I be? What would I be doing? What would my life look like? These are questions that plague me as I thought about this post.

If it were possible to solve every mystery, end every questionable doubt, would I do it? Would I want to live a life in which everything was solved and there was no mystery or corner unturned?

Imagine living in a world where there were no everlasting conflicts. Imagine a Middle East without conflict and that’ll put it in perspective for you. WOW! Can you even picture what that type of world would look like?

The truth is, conflict and loose ends are good for you. They leave you dreaming, they leave you creatively searching for an answer. If we had no loose ends, the New World wouldn’t have had to be conquered, we would’ve all gotten along and found a peaceful way to coexist, the moon would’ve had someone on it years before we took our first steps, and there would have been no debate for Nicolaus Copernicus to end when he published the groundbreaking and end-tying-up heliocentric model of the solar system.

As much as I wish some parts of my life would be “tied up” in a neat little bow, I don’t want them to. You see, with loose ends comes a yearning for results. With a yearning for results comes learning and discovery, and with discovery comes satisfaction and then another question, which starts the whole process over again.

Life is a never ending (until it ends) loose end. We will constantly be tying up arguments, relationships, jobs, grocery store lists, emails, conservation, science, mathematics, and a multitude of other things. I wish I could tie this blog post up with some huge discovery on how I’ve learned how to maker life decisions easier, but I’m still searching for that answer.

I wish there was some way to discover the key of life, some pamphlet that made everything easier, told you the right answer for every aspect of your life, kind of like The Adjustment Bureau.

Alas, I have no huge “discovery” to share nor do I boast the ability to tie up the loose ends of your life. I do, however, boast the inability to tie up all of the loose ends of my life, if that makes you feel any better. I haven’t found the answer, there is no secret formula to happiness or complete acceptance. The only thing you can do is keep trudging on until something makes sense and accept what doesn’t.
