Are you going through a difficult time? Maybe you recently lost your job, or you're dealing with a death in your family. Or maybe you're just not sure anything good in life can happen to you. Whatever you're dealing with, I want you to know that you're not alone and something good can come from the trials you may be going through right now.

Adversity Gets Our Attention

We all experience times of adversity in our lifetime.  As the saying goes, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. During times of adversity turn to God and His words for strength and comfort. When we put our faith in him, he will help guide us to the path of life.

"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed." (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)

prayerIn times of adversity we can develop unshakeable faith. I have gone through many trials along this journey of faith.  I learned early in my walk with the Lord is to trust Him in the midst of adversity.  It wasn't always easy, yet adversity can lead you into a deeper relationship with the Father. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

God works through our trials to bring us into a deeper relationship with Him and to strengthen our faith. James reminds us that God wants us to trust Him during the trials of life.  In the first chapter of James  we are given some understanding of the purpose of trials that come our way:

  • The good that has come from trials.
  • The comfort we can have in trials.

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."  (James 1:2-5)

Adversity builds strengthens our faith and builds courage in our life. hebrew_13-5

One thing we need is wisdom when we go through life's trials. "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do." (James 1:6-8)

Keep in mind that God is in control and as Paul reminds us no one or nothing can separate us from God's love even the most difficult of circumstances. " For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

Adversity works for our good. God is with you and enables you to endure it. "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)  41e8b2a7-fa64-4440-94b2-46eb3ac92e2f

We may not see how God is working through our circumstances when we go through trials, but we can be believe that He is working things out for our good. We are to live by faith..."And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.” (Hebrews 10:38)

May these words bring you the abundant life Jesus came to provide for you!
