Thunder Bay, the small town, located in Northern Ontario, right along Lake Superior, is a popular destination for professionals travelling through on business. The comfortable home-town vibe of the city makes it a great place for hosting events, like family gatherings, weddings, etc. Close by the airport, set against a canvas of clear, blue skies, you will find The Valhalla Inn. The Valhalla is one of the closest hotels to the Thunder Bay Airport, where you can literally watch and hear the airplanes flying in, overheard, as they prepare for landing.

If you are tired and restless, after a long flight, this is a great place to check in. The rates are great, and the service and quality are a high standard in the hospitality industry. Visitors to The Valhalla are welcomed in from the lobby, by friendly, courteous staff. Everyone in the city is very laid-back and genuine, so you get to experience something special - really good-hearted, good-natured, reliable, Northern hospitality. Stay here, and they will treat you like they’ve known you forever!

The lobby of the hotel is very open and spacious, which makes it a really nice place for meeting with small groups of friends or business contacts, while you are waiting for your event to start, or your dinner party to arrive. The welcoming environment encourages productivity, as it is conveniently set up for individuals finishing up work or enjoying a coffee, while waiting for flights, after checking out.

Upgrading to suites can lead to calmer, cooler, more light-hearted stays – it’s those little, extra details that make all the difference. We are especially fond of the mountain and garden view suites, some complete with dinettes and terraces, off the main areas of the rooms.

Dinner Options:

Another great luxury exists right here on site, when it comes to food! For the best dining options, we  highly recommend Runway 25. The ambiance of the hotel restaurant is very warm and friendly, and the décor is upscale and unique. Runway 25 is built to resemble an airplane, and they are known for their delicious surf and turf menu. Thunder Bay does really well with food, and it’s a go big or go home kind of place – there aren’t many vegetarians here, and this is a restaurant that you go to for steak! With over sized dining chairs, and a table, secured by a bolted, metal I-Beam, the look and feel of this place is very rugged and secure.

We give Runway 25 a full 5 stars for ambiance, food and service, and if you are venturing to this innovative restaurant, we suggest giving the Bison Steak a try. Interesting options like these make the overall dinner a very, experiential occasion. As guests on the Runway, visitors can view the kitchen from their seats, and watch as the chefs prepare high quality food-fare for take-off; it’s not your typical hotel restaurant! Even the light fixtures contribute to the experience, with really, exceptional, rustic looking chandeliers, hovering above guest tables. No detail is overlooked.

Added Perks:

Get the Rewards Card!

Valhalla Rewards - Earn ten points for every dollar you spend, not only on hotel stays, but anywhere in the hotel where you enjoy spending time (e.g. the hotel restaurant – make Runway 25 your favorite, new place for dinner & drinks). When you reach 44 000 points, you can stay in a hotel Suite, complete with jacuzzi jets, and when you reach 50 000 points, you receive Platinum Status. Platinum members enjoy automatic discounts and free room upgrades, at no extra cost.

If that’s not enough, there are plenty more fine points to take notice of. Breakfast is easy, with plenty of options on site, including a caffe, for quick pick-me-ups with morning coffee, and there are more ways to enjoy the hotel, even if you aren’t staying the night.

Meetings and Events

The Valhalla Inn is also a great hotel for more formal events. They feature catering for business luncheons, events and shows, and it’s a really great place to host a wedding. They have a number of meeting rooms and our favorite - ball rooms - which are perfect for gathering with large crowds of people. We find these events to be among the classiest in town, with visually stimulating décor, well planned arrangements, and large, spacious rooms, showcasing wide, open areas, perfect for mixing and mingling - So get out your party clothes, and start planning!

Options for food menus are plentiful with everything from breakfast menus, to lunch menus, formal, plated dinners and buffets. They have a variety of selections at the Bar, but our favorite thing is the wine list.

Wine Options:

Wine at The Valhalla is served by the bottle, and it is reasonably priced, within the range of $25 to $300, for the best bottle of French champagne. For special occasions, try the Crystal Brut. With over 20 different kinds of white/sparkling wines, and 15 types of red, the wine list is sure to please even the most experienced tastes, and the variety of choices you will find, pair perfectly with delightful, chef-inspired menu options. We recommend spending a night in, while visiting the Valhalla, and partaking in the entire experience, awaiting those who choose to book in for stays.
