Psalm 23:4

What actions/thoughts in your life identify your identity being in Christ?

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

Valley- Plentiful/ Peaceful (well-watered and protected)à Now dark and lost

Shadow of Death- death in its substance has been removed, and only the shadow of it remains’

‘the shadow of a serpent will not sting, nor the shadow of a sword kill’- Matthew Henry

‘there must be a light (God) in order to be a shadow (sin)’

(1John 5:19) We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one

(Micah 7:8) Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.

 I will fear no evil

deceiver has already been defeated at the cross

there is no condemnation in Christ, we are delivered and accepted

(2Thessalonians 3:3) But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

(Psalm 118:6a & 7a) The Lord is on my side; I will not fear……The Lord is on my side as my helper;

for you are with me

Holy Spirit indwells in our heart when we come to faith in Christ and begin to walk with Him

(Matthew 28:20b) And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

(Isaiah 43: 1b-2) Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.

your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

-the rod, in fact, was an extension of the owner's own right arm. It stood as a symbol of his strength, his power, his authority in any serious situation.

-The rod was what he relied on to safeguard both himself and his flock in danger. And it was, furthermore, the instrument he used to discipline and correct any wayward sheep that insisted on wandering away

(Ezekiel 20:37) I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant

The worst evils of life are those which do not exist except in our imagination. If we had no troubles but real troubles, we should not have a tenth part of our present sorrows. We feel a thousand deaths in fearing one. - Charles H. Spurgeon
