Veep, the HBO political comedy television series starring Seinfeld’s Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, is back for its fifth season April 24th on HBO.  The Emmy Award winning comedy is returning without the help of the show’s creator, Armando Iannucci but the main cast, aside from guests and recurring cast members, will remain virtually unchanged.

The comedy series has been positively received by audiences and critics alike, its R-rated humor is genuinely funny while the show also mimics the political world in a fairly realistic manner.  Dreyfus character has in the show’s five season gone from Vice President of the U.S. to president as she and her political team go through the everyday trials and tribulations of holding political office.  From her staff’s goof-ups as well as her own to the personal drama of the characters and plot twists and turns as Team Meyer deals with the ups and downs in handling political situations and on the campaign trail.

Season 4 of the show ended with lots of uncertainty as Selina Meyer’s team was left scrambling after a tied election in her Presidency Bid.  Season 5 will pick up where season 4 left off and the same general funniness can be expected as in the sneak peek trailer Meyer likens her eyelids to “Keith Richards ball sack.”  As the trailer suggests, the show is funniest in it’s behind the scenes depiction of politics and what voters do not see and hear while the public speeches and whatnot are not unlike the polished image that politicians of the real world present to the public.  Just what season 5 will entail only HBO cast and crew really know, but at least for certain viewers will see the show starting off in the midst of an election very much up in the air and more drama and raunchy humor that has made the show a success five years running.
