This toast makes for a healthy breakfast item or a lovely evening snack. Its superhealthy and delicious. You may either make the Indian version or the European version. I am sharing both the versions.

Makes 6 toasts

INGREDIENTS

6 large bread slices

Canola/Olive Oil for shallow frying

Oats 4 tbsp

Gram Flour 123 grams or 1 cup

Red Millet flour (Ragi Flour) 1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Finely chopped green chillies 1 tsp

Juice of half a lemon

A pinch of asafoetida (if required)

Mixed seeds (optional)

European Four spice powder 1tsp

Indian Five Spice Powder 1 tsp

If you go with Indian spice mix then add

1/2 tsp turmeric

1/2 tsp red chilly powder

1/2 tsp coriander powder

1/2 tsp cumin powder

Method

Take a bowl.

Add gramflour, red millet flour, 1 cup chilled water stirring constantly so that no lumps are formed. Now add green chillies, spicemix powder, salt, juice of half a lemon and mix well. The batter should be of thick consistency.

Heat oil in a deep cooking pot also known as kadhai in India.

Coat the bread with the batter on both the sides and immediately shallow fry it in the hot oil.

Fry till golden brown.

SERVE WITH

Baked Beans or Tomato salsa or any chutneys of your choice.

TIP

Stir the batter before coating every bread slice.

You may cook this toast in a non stick pan with a little oil. Let one side cook well and then turn.
