This season have you asking, what's up with the wicker bag? You're not alone. We haven't really seen much of wicker since the basket in Wizard of Oz - then, out of no where, it's everywhere. From straw hats to basket-inspired bags, this woven reality has taken over the fashion scene.

Just why has this trend taken off? Get the feeling of a tropical vacation, without the price tag. Wicker bags are totally affordable, and somehow make you feel like you're participating in something exotic, even if you're rocking it in the city streets.

The big surprise here, is just how modern the trend can look. Paired with some of the biggest fall fashion trends like oversized sweater styles and beaming metallics, basket bags are actually looking quite chic in streetstyle inspo. You can spot them on some of the biggest bloggers and celebrities, sporting the style in a sort of bohimian-chic way. While the trend continues into fall 2017, this trend was actually first spotted a couple years back in the spring. However, while the light material makes it a fabulous summer trend, it also adds a warm texture to winter fashion.

Not ready to rock wicker with sweats and booties? Go for a resort-style approach. Woven bags are the cool-girl accessory for beach or poolside, or for exotic locations like Bali or Morocco.

"The market seems ripe for a cool-girl evolution on the straw basket right now, and we're calling that Assoulin's iteration will reign supreme. Sure, straw baskets have been in style since Birkin iconized the look in the '70s, but they surged in popularity again in the last two years, with Doen's wildly popular Market Tote, and then with versions hitting more mainstream retailers like Urban Outfitters, Free People, and Forever 21." - Alina Gonzalez, Writer at Who What Wear

The trick to pulling off the trend? InStyle recommends going for a basic T and jeans combo, or going monochrome with coordinating neutral shades. Basket bags are also a great texture match with other rich textures like velvet and suede.
