In their book “Science Speaks” (by Peter Stoner and Robert Newman), they say that the chances of any person fulfilling even eight prophecies that are found in the Bible in one lifetime are a staggering one in ten to the 17th power. Imagine if you were to fill the state of Texas two feet deep with silver dollars, then you marked one dollar with an X and stirred them all. Now, you have to choose that marked dollar with only one try...oh, and you're blindfolded. The birth, life, and death of Jesus fulfilled at least 44 prophecies (they are listed here-

It is interesting that the book of Isaiah records a prophecy (written in the 8th century BC) as follows, "All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means 'God is with us')." -NLT We also must take into account the fact that Mary would have come through the lineage of Aaron the Levite's (based on being Elizabeth’s cousin) which means she was of priestly decent. That is important.

Another prophecy in Micah 5:2 (NIV) states “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." This one could only be fulfilled through the lineage tracing back to Judah (which happened through Joseph).

Pretty cool stuff! Think about this as you open your presents on Christmas morning and consider the magnitude of the gift which God freely gave to us!

Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year!!

me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
